Surfing 101 Overview

Surfing is one of the most exhilarating experiences in the world, and surfing on the Great Lakes is no exception. The thrill of being surrounded by nature while riding a wave of pure energy is something you will never forget!

Our lesson programs are designed to help share the joy of surfing in the Great Lakes with anyone who may be interested. The lessons aim to introduce students to the very basics of surfing and water safety, with emphasis on surfing fundamentals, safety, and fun!

Due to the nature of Midwestern weather, Great Lakes waves can be fairly unpredictable. It’s what makes Lake surfing unique; when the waves are up, we go surfing! Although most of our big waves come in the fall, winter and spring, we also get plenty of days with small waves in the summer — perfect for learning how to surf! Also, a wetsuit is usually recommended as water temperatures can be a bit cool, even in summer.
