Black Box Surfboards are hand built in the Great Lakes, and this is a killer shred stick for lake waves.
Matt Campbell is a surfer/shaper based in eastern Michigan. With a background in plastic and resin technology, Matt developed his own line of surfboard resin called Resin-X. Resin-X has many properties which make it ideal for use in surfboard construction and is used exclusively in the boards that he builds for us. Each of Matt's shapes is thoroughly tested in the Great Lakes and on both ocean coasts. Matt's collaboration with coastal shapers and glassers has helped enable him to develop a line of boards that we have been really happy with. Support your local shapers!
Here is Matt's description of the Twin Finner:
"Twin fins have seen a great resurgence lately, and for good reason. They are fast, loose and can make quads and tri fins both feel dead at times. This board has many influences from different people I have worked with in the industry, but the biggest influence is Mark Richards. This twin is meant to be ridden without the center stabilizer as a true twin until you feel like you need to put it in. The thinner, bladed tail acts like a fin when engaged. This is a very fast board with a large range, and a great shortboard for the Great Lakes or ocean. It can change directions very fast due to the twin fin set that are in line, and which pivot around much tighter. A Twin has way less drag so they also start going faster through water sooner.
The outline of this board is one of my favorites of the boards I shape. It combines the front of my high performance boards and takes the tail curve of my Out for Blood fish (one of my most popular boards) and pulls it in for the thin mini swallow tail. You can also order this board in a rounded pin but I suggest the swallow. Features include a three-ply bass green/natural/green stringer, and the Lokbox new Micro Box, the lightest strongest box on the market with adjustment and a special yellow fiberglass fin set. This board has a sanded gloss finish. The construction is light and strong with EPS foam and Resin-X, for a board that does not yellow and has outstanding flex. This board has a slight single going into a double with panel V out the tail and my special something I put in the nose area of my boards to quiet them down on bumpy days. There is a small wing near the front fins.
Modern twins have a very unique feel that is not like quads or thrusters. The rocker profile is very fast on this board and lends itself well to performance surfing where we live. (Note: EPS offers more float than PU foam if you are worried about thickness)."
Fins included.
